When I was a child, my family took us kids to Tamworth country music festival. Been raised by the ocean, surfing everyday, going to the country, was a new and exciting experience. I've never seen nor heard of this town, let alone seen an aboriginal.
When we arrived, all the aboriginals called me brother, some even asked what tribe I was from?
Not sure what to say, didn't want to lie, so I shook my shoulders and kept on with the conversation.
That was a long time ago, I've recently been immersing myself in this extraordinary ancient culture, their rituals, their land & their way of life. As far as I can remember, I've always had a deep connection with the land and the unexplained energies that govern these forces.
Basquiat's style first was introduced to me by my close friend, Rory Crumlin. His fascination with John Michael Basquiat led me to study his style, his life and aspirations. Like all artworks, there homework behind the work. To believe you make something out of thin air, is both pure luck and a connection to the divine, Some things you cant explain.
While out one night with friends, the idea just came to me like a flash of lighting - the inspiration decoded as "combine both aboriginal stories and culture, with the inspired painting style of john michael Basquiat's". That moment, I got in my car, quickly drove home and got to work.
Didn't sleep till the following day.
The Original Artworks were created using spray paint, acrylics and mixed media painted on canvas. All three artworks were created by INDO the artist 2015 in Sydney Northern Beaches Ausralia.
